This week we kicking off with osteoporosis. This is a disease characterized by a decrease in bone mass. This low bone mass leads to fragile bones and increases your risk for fractures.

RISK FACTORS:
Older women.
Women who experience early menopause..
Cigarette smoking.
Excessive alcohol and caffeine consumption.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:
osteoporosis is sometimes referred to as the silent disease because there are few initial symptoms. In severe cases symptoms can include pain in the bones, especially the spine.

TREATMENT:
Exercise – daily weight bearing exercises helps to reduce bone loss..
Avoid tobacco, alcohol and caffeine..
Nutrition – Calcium and Vitamin D are needed for healthy bones.
