This week we kicking off with osteoporosis. This is a disease characterized by a decrease in bone mass. This low bone mass leads to fragile bones and increases your risk for fractures.
RISK FACTORS:
✔Older women.
✔Women who experience early menopause..
✔Cigarette smoking.
✔Excessive alcohol and caffeine consumption.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:
osteoporosis is sometimes referred to as the silent disease because there are few initial symptoms. In severe cases symptoms can include pain in the bones, especially the spine.
TREATMENT:
✔Exercise – daily weight bearing exercises helps to reduce bone loss..
✔Avoid tobacco, alcohol and caffeine..
✔Nutrition – Calcium and Vitamin D are needed for healthy bones.
